Practical Advice

Who to notify when someone dies:

When someone dies it is important to notify people and companies about the death.

Many companies will require the death certificate before they can take action but it is important to call them and advise of the death as soon as possible. When you have received the death certificate, you can then forward a copy to these companies.

We have included a checklist of companies that require notification.

We have also included a sample letter which you may use to send written notice to the company.

To have the name and telephone number of the person who has died removed from mailing lists you can ask the Australian Direct Marketing Association to do this for you.
